Jeffrey Herlings injury - Spain crash could wreck pre-season plans
By Team TMX on 28th Jan 19
A training crash left Jeffrey Herlings with a foot injury that required immediate surgery it has been confirmed. With the first grand prix of the season just weeks away, it's a big setback to his MXGP preparations.
The team said that a training crash in Spain left the world champion needing surgery with some media outlets reporting it as a broken foot, although the team has not offered any specifics on the injury.
While his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team-mate was showing he's lost none of his speed in the off-season Tony Cairoli dominated the first round of the Internazionali dItalia MX at Riola Sardo Jeffrey Herlings was recovering from an unplanned surgery.
"Jeffrey Herlings suffered a crash [Friday] while training and underwent an operation on his right foot the same evening," said a statement from the team.
The team report that there is no "major damage" to his ankle and that further details, including expected recovery time, will arrive in the next day or so.
Although Herlings had already elected not to race at Riola Sardo he had committed to the Be Wiser Hawkstone International on February 17. The word we're hearing is that it's almost certain he will not be fit in time for the famous international. Let's hope he can make one of his legendary recoveries.
We'll update here when we get further official word on Jeffrey Herlings' injury.
