JERONI Fajardo claimed his first ever SPEA FIM World Trials Championship win in Andorra on Sunday but the day was won by Brits Alexz Wigg and Jonathan Richardson who incredibly tied up the World Junior and World Youth titles respectively...Pictures: ERIC KITCHEN JERONI Fajardo put his countrymen and title challengers Toni Bou and Adam Raga in the shade in Andorra as the Catalan notched-up his first ever World Championship success – and the first win for the Beta EVO model.

Fajardo really was in a class of his own posting the lowest score on each of the two laps of 15 sections – and not even three time penalties could stop Jeroni's march to a long overdue win.

The trial in Andorra featured five sections in the cold, mountain stream featuring a stone bed and big rocks with the remainder of the 15 hazards spread high up the mountainside in the woods.

Apart from a single five, in the tough watery fifth hazard, Jeroni kept out of trouble while his rivals all notched-up unwanted maximums.

Bou had a five in the ninth section, when the tape was broken, either by himself or by a minder and although there was rumpus about it, the five stood.

And then the world championship leader fived the penultimate section on his second lap and this dropped him to third. Title rival Raga was in second – how he would have loved it to be first – which closed the Championship gap down to 12 points with just two rounds to go.

Dougie Lampkin claimed fifth place, just one point behind former team-mate Takahisa Fujinami while James Dabill matched Doug on overall scores but lost out on the most cleans tie-break – 16 to 11. How close can it get?

Michael Brown was the third Brit in the contest and took tenth after a hard day.

In the Junior class the win went to Spain's Alfredo Gomez with a dominant ride in which he dropped just four marks. Ross Danby was a strong fourth on just 21, but the day belonged to Alexz Wigg as the Brit tied-up the Junior title after a torrid day at the office.

Seventh was not what Alexz was looking for but it did the job. As ever, Brits piled up the points with Jack Challoner and George Morton following him home with James Fry nailing good points for 12th.

In a low-scoring Youth class Belgian Maxime Warenghien took the overall honours but Britain's Ben Morphett rose to the occasion to claim a great second place but all eyes were on Yorkshire's Jonathan Richardson who held his nerve and tied-up the title with a fine podium placing.

Jonny Walker finished just out of the points in 16th while Joanne Coles tackled the course and put in a gutsy performance to reach the finish.
