Jett Lawrence goes 1-1 at The Wick
By Team TMX on 30th Jun 25
After the first scheduled break in the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross calendar, the series roared back into life for the fifth stop of the season at the iconic Crestview Construction Southwick National. Known simply as The Wick 338, the legendary sand circuit once again lived up to its reputation, delivering a physically and mentally taxing challenge for the world’s best. While many struggled to tame the brutal terrain, it was business as usual for Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence, who made it five wins from five with another clinical 1-1 performance.
A gloomy, misty morning gave way to clear skies just in time for the opening motos. Jett Lawrence wasted no time asserting himself, nailing the Pro Motocross Holeshot ahead of team-mate and older brother Hunter Lawrence, with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Aaron Plessinger in hot pursuit. The lead trio quickly strung out, with Jett pulling clear in the opening laps to establish a commanding advantage.
As the race wore on, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jorge Prado - fresh off back-to-back MXGP World Championships - joined forces with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac to mount a late charge. Both riders found their way past Plessinger, but Prado’s efforts were undone by a tip-over in the deep sand, gifting Tomac a clear path to third. Prado remounted and salvaged fifth behind a resilient Plessinger in fourth.
Out front, Jett Lawrence remained unchallenged and crossed the line 13.7 seconds clear of Hunter, with Tomac rounding out the podium five seconds further adrift.
The second moto was almost a carbon copy of the first off the line, as Jett Lawrence once again snatched the Holeshot, this time ahead of Prado and Hunter. Tomac wasted no time muscling past Hunter into third, but the American could do little to halt Jett’s progress as the Aussie built an 8.5-second lead by the halfway mark.
Tomac soon found himself under pressure from Hunter Lawrence, who was the quicker of the two and slipped past with relative ease. With momentum on his side, Hunter then closed in on Prado, who -under pressure and while negotiating lapped traffic - hit the deck and dropped to sixth. That opened the door for Hunter to move into second once again, with Tomac back into third.
At the front, Jett Lawrence was in a league of his own, stretching the gap to 20.1 seconds at the flag for his most dominant win of the season. Hunter backed him up for another 1-2 finish, while Tomac hung on for third - over 30 seconds behind the race winner.
The Southwick sweep marked a landmark 20th career 450 Class overall win for Jett Lawrence, drawing him level with AMA Hall of Famer James Stewart for seventh on the all-time list. Remarkably, it was also his 15th career 1-1 result in just 21 Pro Motocross starts, and his third successive victory at the famed Massachusetts circuit.
Hunter Lawrence backed up his brother once again to complete the Honda 1-2 for the second straight round, while Tomac’s consistent 3-3 gave him a fourth podium in five events.
Heading into the midpoint of the season, Jett now holds a 38-point advantage over Tomac at the top of the standings. Hunter’s recent run of form has moved him into third overall, just three points adrift of Tomac and 43 behind his brother.
