JHL ready to make MXGP history

Chinese motorcycle manufacturer JHL makes history this weekend at the Shanghai MXGP of China by becoming the first Chinese manufacturer to enter the FIM Motocross World Championship with a genuinely homebuilt machine.
Older readers might remember Marvin van Daele riding a Shineray in the 2007 MX1 World Championship but guess what? It was a rebadged CRF450R – yep, shock horror!
This weekend, however, sees seven riders racing the real deal and, with MXGP rider numbers currently almost as scarce as white tigers in the wild, world championship points are almost guaranteed.
JHL says Brian Hsu and Yuzhang Li will compete in MXGP on LX350Rs, with Italo Medina, Haoyu Li, Hugh McKay, Jai Constantinou and Thanaret Penjan lined up for MX2 on LX250Rs. The official MXGP entry list, however, currently shows just four JHL riders…
Other than who is riding them, little is known about the machines, which JHL claims are built with leading components including D.I.D. chains, KYB suspension and Bosch EFI, along with top-spec engines from China.
They certainly look the part and it will be interesting to see how they perform on track, especially underneath German all-rounder Brian Hsu – the classical violinist and seriously talented motocross racer who was a top performer at the recent FIM World Supercross round in Canada, where he raced a Stark Varg.
