Kathryn Booth: On the GP trail

Motocross Kathryn Booth

Having chatted with Kathryn Booth back in 2013, it was obvious even back then she was a girl going places with her eyes set on the bigger prizes in WMX.

At the time she was just 12 years old, already on a 125cc shredder mixing it with the boys and absolutely dominating the girls game. When asked about her long term plans for the future back then, and who in MX she looks up for inspiration, she revealed. I dont look up to any riders in particular in that way.

I just do my own thing because I really want to. If anyone the inspiration and motivation comes from my dad. As for the future we have a three-year plan that should see me at GP level by 2016/17.

The crystal ball gazing wasnt very far out it appears as 16-year-old Kathryn made her WMX GP debut at Ernee, France in May. Running a more-than-decent 21-24 card with a full 40-rider line up at the start of proceedings she made a great first of that, only just missing out on collecting points.

Her second appearance of the year was Assen in September, that proved to be a real tough day at the office. It was not a good weekend at all, take it on the chin an move on to the next one, said Kathryn.

I learnt from the mistakes and used it as experience. Luck was not on my side but thank you to everyone who gives me the opportunities to experience riding against the worlds fastest women.

With the French round at Pays De Montbeliand turning into a massive mudder the WMX series ended in ultra tough conditions, but for Kathryn her finest moment as she picked up her first GP points, two of them in fact for a 19th-place finish in moto one.

That was back in the middle of September, then just a few weeks ago came the news that shes signed up for a full season of WMX next year with the iFLY JK Yamaha team. Her team-mate next year will be Lynn Valk from Holland, we featured her a few weeks back as one of the stars of this years Honda EMX 150 series.

All the best for 2018 Kathryn.
