Last Tuesday, November 15, Manxman David Knight received his MBE for Services to the Sport of Motorcycling, after being listed on the Queens 2011 Birthday Honours List and has been made a Member of the British Empire.

Knight, who began his motorcycle career as a trials rider, switched over to the enduro scene and quickly climbed the ladder of success. He has been at the top of both World and British Enduro Championship racing for over ten-years now.

During that time David has captured a number of titles, including his first World Enduro Championship in 2005 and then again in 2006 before he moved to America to contest the American Grand National Cross-Country (GNCC) championship, which he won in 2007 along with the AMA Enduro-cross series and the FIM World Indoor Enduro Cup.

Again in 2008 David remained in America to sucessfully defend his GNCC crown. However, after a troubled 2009 season he returned to World Enduro events with KTM to take his third World E3 title.

On the National scene Knighter, as he is affectionately known, has won the ACU British Enduro Championship a total of eight-times and various high profile international events such as the Erzberg Extreme (twice), the US Red Bull Last man standing (twice) and was the overall winner of the 2005 International Six Day Enduro – the latter recognised as the olympics of enduro competition.

He has also dabbled with Supermoto and turned up at Weston one year to win both the Quad and Solo classes on consecutive days – a truly versatile rider.
