DOUGIE Lampkin arrived in Barzio on Thursday morning to confirm his participation in this weekend's Italian round of the World Trials Championship, round five of the 2009 series. The event is located approximately 50-kilometres north of Bergamo in the Italain mountains.
Following the injuries he sustained at the Red Bull Hare Scramble in Erzberg, Austria last weekend, which caused the veteran campaigner spend a night in hospital after being airlifted from the event suffering with heat exhaustion and concusion, Dougie has opted to sit out Friday's initial practice session.
Dougie's main problem is the damage to his hand that includes severe brusing to his two outer-most fingers and some obvious swelling to the thumb on the same hand. " There would seem little point in aggravating my hand anymore than necessary this weekend. My main objective is to go into the trial on Sunday with the best possible chance of getting a result.” Lampkin explained.
"I plan to test the bike this afternoon and maybe just some very light practice tomorrow. Each day the pain and swelling is getting less, so hopefully come Sunday I will be in some kind of shape to put in a reasonable performance to at least maintain my position in the overall standings.” Lampkin concluded.
Dougie currently holds fifth place in the championship.
