Richmond Motor Club staged the final round of the British Ladies Trials Championship on Sunday at Grinton in the heart of the Yorkshire dales. The club welcomed a good entry of 23 riders, the weather however was less than welcoming with a very cold drizzly day.
Reigning British Champion Becky Cook made the long journey from the Isle of Wight on Thursday to take part in 2 days of ACU training along with teammates Katy Sunter, Emma Bristow and MRS Sherco rider Donna Fox and being coached under the watchful eye of James Lampkin. Despite having a cracking 2 days training, the JST GG girls just couldn't hold it together when it mattered. Donna Fox rode superbly to take the win as her third victory over Becky in the season, and Katy finished third as usual! Emma Bristow also had a troubled day as she struggled to get to grips in the slippery Yorkshire becks, however still took the premier A Class award and strolled away with the Championship easily from team mate Sasha Turkington who opted to stay at home in Ireland and watch the big boys riding.
Cogden Hall greeted the riders with a good variation of testing sections, from limestone rockery to polished rots in woodland, and Becky was not at ease with the greasy surroundings. Cook took an early five on section 6 when an awkward rock threw the chain off her GG, and this affected her concentration as afer the 1st lap was trailing Fox by 7 marks. Becky managed to get back on track and completed the 2nd lap for just 6, showing an impressive display of skill. Fox, however was consistently on form and Cook just couldn't pull it back.
Final Championship standings remained unaltered after this round and Becky makes it a hat-trick of British titles with team mate Katy Sunter holding up the ranks in third. Emma Bristow and Sasha Turkington battled it out all year for the A Class title; Emma took the advantage winning 7 out of 8 rounds and also would have actually finished 3rd in the Adult class, an impressive performance at just 15 years old.
The JST girls have not only been ruling in GB but also abroad. Recently at the 2nd European round in Italy, Becky Cook took 2nd place just 11 points behind Champion Laia Sanz and certainly relegated Gas Gas' number 1 Iris Kramer to 3rd place. Becky now has to put a place between her and Iris at the final Euro round in September to take 2nd place overall in the championship. Emma Bristow competed in her 2nd ever international event and finished well up in 8th place giving those European girls a run for their money. Sasha T also made the journey to Italy and scored valuable championship points.
Well done to all JST girls and bring on those European and World Championship points in September.
