Female ace paralysed in US crash THE OFF-ROAD community is pulling together to support a fund-raising appeal after 16-year-old Laurie Squirrell was left seriously injured in a crash in the USA at the end of November. Laurie, the first and so far only female rider to achieve ACU Expert status, was left paralysed from the chest down after a practice crash while competing in the Women's Motocross Association World Cup in San Antonio, Texas, when she was hit by her bike. After an extensive operation to stabilise her injury it's hoped that Laurie will be well enough to be flown home to Stowmarket in Suffolk. It's hoped enough money can be raised to send her to a specialist hospital in Israel where an operation similar to the one Christopher Reeve underwent can be performed. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so using the following details...
