Winstanley takes S1 podium at final round BRITISH SUPERMOTO star Matt Winstanley ended the S1 supermoto season on a high by taking a fine third place in the superfinal at the ninth and final round of the 2004 supermoto world championships at Finestrat in Spain. Winstanley - who only started racing supermoto in January after a successful motocross career - ended up 10th in the final series standings on the Bracken KTM after making his first podium appearance in the championship. And it was a double bonus for the 21-year-old Wigan whippet as he was named 'Rookie of the Year' by championship promoters Youthstream. It was another KTM rider - Frenchman Thierry Van Den Bosch - who claimed the S1 title with a triple-win in Spain while in the S2 category Jerome Giraudo took a surprise championship win on the all-new Aprilia after championship leader Max Verdorosa had a Spanish nightmare.
