After a successful weekend in Italy for the third round of the World Enduro Championships, Britain's David Knight tops the Enduro 3 class.

Meanwhile, Frenchman Johnny Aubert's hopes of lifting a third consecutive Enduro World Championship were ended last weekend when the factory KTM rider failed to score any points on either day of the GP.

Suffering from an inner ear problem which caused the Frenchman to lose his balance both on and off his bike, Aubert could do nothing but watch as countryman Antoine Meo moved close to 30 points clear at the top of the E1 Championship standings.

In winning the Enduro 1 class on both days Antoine delivered the most impressive performances of any rider during the Bergamo Moto Club organised Acerbis GP of Italy.

Dominating the E1 class on day one to finish nearly two minutes ahead of runner-up Eero Remes, Meo returned to the top of the results on day two to end the event with a healthy championship lead after just three rounds of the series.

"I knew this would be an important event,”explained the Frenchman after the event, "but I never expected things to turn out the way they have. Not fighting with Johnny was very different to the first rounds of the Championship.

"Once I knew he was out on day one I rode more relaxed, but on day two I didn't ride so well. The important thing for me now is to keep pushing hard to win now that I have a good lead in the World Championship.''
