Dan Thorpe ran faultless through 40 Coverdale sections on Sunday to a convincing Gerald Simpson Memorial Trial victory from 153 contenders. It was Dan at his brilliant best, through sections superbly balanced for six classes ranging from Experts to Over 50s where evergreen Stewart Oughton reigned supreme from former sidecar ace Phil Scott and the legendary Willy Wood.
JST Gas Gas star Thorpe just cleaned every section and never ever even appeared as if he was going to drop a mark. It was just one of those days and the question was being asked, would Youth star Richard Sadler match Thorpe in his first major road based trial. The answer was "No” but a six score rattled the rafters. The West Witton youth won the Novice class and left top inter Will Reynolds in the shade as well as all six experts with the exception of Dan Thorpe.
