THE sixth and penultimate round of the ACU Express Insurance British Youth Motocross Championship rolled into Cumbria once again to the excellently prepared track at Low Gelt Farm, near Brampton. And with the weather behaving itself until the last race was over, the spectacle of over 200 of the top Youth riders from all over the UK doing battle all weekend made this another success story for all the hard work by the team at East Cumbria MXC, and the team from the ACU.
JUNIOR 65cc
In the Cobra backed Junior 65cc class it was series leader Conrad Mewse who showed he can ride the deep sand by taking a start to finish win in race one, with Keenan Hird holding down second place until a mishap on the last lap let through Henry Williams and the battling Sid Evans, Williams claimed second with Evans third, just in front of support rider James McFadden in fourth.
SMALL-WHEEL 85cc
An upset was on the cards in the first race of the Par Homes sponsored Small-wheel 85 class, as Corrie Southwood hit the front with Matthew Callaghan, Connor Clark, Callan Cooper, Liam Knight and Tom Neal all in front of championship leader Ben Watson. Callaghan hit problems on lap two, which let Clark through and the battle for the win commenced between Southwood and Clark. Southwood succumbed to the pressure on lap five and Clark hit the front leaving Southwood to fend off Cooper for second place, Southwood held on to take second with Cooper third, Knight held on to take fourth with Watson taking fifth.
BIG-WHEEL 85cc
n race one of the Big-wheel 85cc class Nathan Watson hit the front with Ben Howell, Jamie McCanney, Sunny Thompson and Houghton all hard on his heels. In lap two and Watson had a mishap which let McCanney take over in front with Thompson and Houghton chasing him down, McCanney held his nerve and went on to win, with Thompson second, Jake Millward took third after getting past Houghton and Howell. But Watson pipped these two to fourth after charging back through the field.
