Lucas talking!

Motocross

It seems like reigning Champion, Ryan Villopoto is back to full strength and firing on all cylinders, as he powered his way to his sixth win in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, at Lucas Oil Stadium. Meanwhile in the Eastern 250 class, Red Bull KTMs Marvin Musquin started where left off last week, claiming his second consecutive victory.

As the gate dropped in the Main event, it was Davi Millsaps who got the jump and blasted his way to the front to claim the holeshot. On his tail though, was James Stewart, and he wasted no time in finding a way through to take over at the front.

Ryan Villopoto got off to a good start also, and soon found himself up into third before the end of the opening lap. Then, on lap three, the Kawasaki rider made a pass for third, but Millsaps retaliated, and quickly re-took Villopoto. The battle continued for another three laps when Villopoto made another pass for the lead. This time it stuck, and on the same lap he set about catching leader, Stewart.

Before the lap was over, Villopoto was able to catch and overtake Stewart after he stalled his bike. Once out in front with a clear track ahead, there was no stopping the green charge, as he headed off for the chequered flag.

Millsaps also passed Stewart when he stalled his machine, with KTM's Ryan Dungey also seizing the chance to make up some valuable time on the front runners. By lap seven Dungey had gathered enough momentum to make a pass round Millsaps and take over second.

As the laps counted down it looked as though the top three had been decided, but a mistake by Millsaps on the final lap saw him hit the dirt and hand third back to Stewart.

Villopoto's win now sees him extend his points lead in the championship to nine points.

"James Stewart was riding great tonight,” said Villopoto. "Lucas Oil Stadium has been great to me; it's an amazing stadium and I love coming here. Ryan Dungey was able to make up some time on me here and there, but I just kept pushing hard until the end.”

Absent from the gate drop in the Eastern 250 class was Dean Wilson. The Kawasaki rider crashed in qualification, landing heavy on his left side. From his hospital bed, Wilson tweeted his injuries were a broken back, collapsed lung, broken rib and a broken shoulder.

Blake Wharton took to the front as the gate dropped for the 250 Main event, grabbing the holeshot before being briefly passed by Kyle Peters. Series leader, Wil Hahn, didn't get the best of starts, but was on the gas straight away, playing catch-up from the back of the pack.

Also working his way up to the front was last week's winner, Marvin Musquin. On lap 11 Musquin passed AJ Cantanzero for fifth, with Hahn coming through on lap 13. The pair then kept the pressure on and on lap 14 Wharton crashed at the front, allowing Musquin to take of the lead. Time ran out for Hahn, who eventually had to be content with a third placed finish behind Kyle Peters who took second, a career best.

"We have been talking about confidence, and tonight I had it,” said Musquin. "I fought really hard, and I believed in myself. Anything can happen out there, and tonight was kind of lucky but I got the win.”
