Motocross Injury Report Matt Moffat
Top North East racer Matt Moffat is recovering in hospital after he sustained head and neck injuries in a heavy crash at Brampton on Saturday.
The popular two-stroke specialist was competing on the opening day of East Cumbria MXC's Lee Tolson Memorial meeting when the accident happened.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service attended along with the North West Ambulance Service and Moffat was placed in an induced coma before the 22-minute flight to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The good news is it appears that there are no broken bones in his neck and as TMX went to press Matt was reassuring his friends via social media that he's recovering quickly.
'Thanks everyone,' he posted on his Facebook page. 'I've just been on my phone to see all the messages. I'm getting better [and] I hope to be out of here soon.'
The County Durham racer has shown himself to be capable of holding his own in top-flight British championship racing but it is on a two-stroke that he has enjoyed his greatest successes.
In 2015 he was second in the EMX300cc championship and backed this up with fourth last year, one place behind his close friend Brad Anderson who currently leads the 2017 series.
Messages of support flooded in after his accident.
Among the many posts, Enduro World Championship contender Danny McCanney wrote: 'Wishing my good friend Matthew Moffat all the best and thinking of him and his family who are looking after him.'
British championship regular and Irish MXoN rider Stuart Edmonds wrote: 'Wishing you a speedy recovery dude, many battles we have had and you're a strong one.'
