THE BSMA Best of British Championship round two, was held at the long established track of Whiteway Barton, Kingsteignton, near Exeter. With perfect weather and the track layout recently improved, everything was set for a fantastic weekend's racing. The SW Association's enthusiasm and fantastic support from the competitors made the meeting run like clockwork. What a contrast from the first round on the sand track at Chippenham to the steep hills of Devon.Report: DON CHURCHPictures: RAY SMITH Junior riders started proceedings with Conrad Mewse from the Corsham club the rider to beat, three seconds and a lap quicker than anyone saw him gain a superb maximum, a real battle for second between Jake Deacon and David Keet both gaining two second spots each as they chased Mewse.
Tommie Schofield with four superb races finished out of the top six with a DNF in race two. Jack Roberts finished fourth just edging out Albie Wilks.
The Small-wheel 85cc was a really competitive group with Ringwood rider Liam Knight taking first overall with three wins and two second positions. Danny Lanfear finished runner-up with some consistent riding just edging out Curtis Blamey who had two brilliant wins by two points. Rob Holyoake, Tyron Cleaver and Greg Evans battled it out for the minor positions.
James Dunn from Seven Valley with a maximum dominated the Big-wheel 85cc group. His pace downhill, style and aggression on this track makes him one to look out for in the future.
Jack Gardner despite having a disasterous second race took second overall with three good runner-up spots. Christopher Grindle took the last podium position with just one point separating the next three riders, Karl Haycock, Charley Mills and Zac Alsop. Jay Thomas runner-up in his first two races looked like the rider to give James Dunn a challenge but was unable to repeat his results and finished seventh on the weekend.
The Senior racing was of the finest order with Aaron Jenner looking unbeatable once in front and in the first three races was unchallenged. David Sweet, second overall, started with a poor result in his first outing but came back strongly to take runner-up in the next three races. Race four he tried four times on the same corner to pass Aaron but he held his line. Sweet managed to pass him on a difficult cambered corner but Aaron with some determined riding on the last lap gave him his fourth win. The final moto saw David Sweet make a near perfect start to take the lead with Jenner back in seventh. Some brave downhill passing saw him fight back to second position only to suffer a back wheel puncture and his maximum was gone. Alex Hussey with two second places was always in the equation and finished close on points in third. Scott Bates and Jansen both raced consistently with Liam Wright just edging out the fast starting Gerwyn Pritchard for sixth.
AMX were next to the line with three different race winners. James Cole came out on top and was never out of the top three. He had to work hard especially in the last race to gain his only win. Jack Tovey the winner of race three finished just two points behind in second place taking advantage of a crash by Darren Banwell when in front. Warren Field took third overall with the unlucky Darren Banwell in fourth. He looked unbeatable until he crashed in race three but came back to winning ways on the second day with another win and a second place. Aaron Carmichael, Graham Lamb and Patrick Collins battled it out for the next three places.
The Open Champion-ship with several support riders make for some exciting spectating, Connor Pearce took first overall with three wins and two third positions. Paul Hussey with some consistent riding finished second just two points in front of third place Daniel Boucher. Gary Pottenger, Thomas Hambridge and Aaron Collins completed the top six. The quickest rider Danny Iles had a disasterous weekend with two wins and three DNF to finish seventh.
The BSMA Management team would like to thank everyone for all their support at this superb meeting.
