Monk's landed a Thumper!
By TMX Archives on 26th Nov 09

PAUL Edwards wrestled his big Pre-unit Construction 500 Ariel round three slippery laps of 17 sections to win the 29th running of the Eastern Thumpers Trial.
He won by losing just 20 marks beating into second place, for the second year running, Mark Fletcher riding a 500 Royal Enfield by just five marks. Last year's class winner Matthew Neale was third just two marks behind Fletcher.
While the big bikes were fighting for the Pre-unit class, last year's Unit class winner, Steve Monk, was defending his title by finishing with the loss of just 15, four points clear of second place man Chris Collins on his 250 BSA.
The organising Eastern Four-strokes Association laid out the event at Poplars Chase Farm, at Thorrington, just outside Colchester, in Essex, where riders and officials were greeted by clear blue skys and a warm mild day for November. However the forecasted three o'clock showers turned up at 12 making the sections quite difficult, and the observers job very uncomfortable.
