Mx Diary: Bryan MacKenzie update
By Team TMX on 10th Aug 16
Apico Husqvarnas Bryan MacKenzie was missing from the starting line-up for Sundays final round of the Pirelli Masters at Whitby but while the Scots down hes anything but out.
MacKenzie injured his ankle at the previous round of the series at Pontrilas but the Maxxis MX2 title contender's determined to be racing at the seventh round of the British championship at Preston Docks on August 21.
"I've got a tear in a ligament in my right ankle and it's pretty sore at the moment,” said Irn Bry, who's just four points off the series lead.
"It's still very swollen and it's hard to walk so I've not done any riding or training for a week.
"Obviously I wasn't at Whitby because I still can't ride so the gameplan is to just rest it and get into the best shape possible for Preston Docks.
"I don't know if that means I'll be able to ride before then or have to rest it up completely but I'll be there and be ready to go.”
MacKenzie sustained the injury without crashing after misjudging a turn in dusty conditions.
"I was in third and it was very dusty – the track was absolutely abysmal – and I couldn't see far enough ahead of me as I was going into a high-speed left-hander and I mustn't have banked the bike over further enough.
"I think the outside of my foot caught the edge of a rut and it twisted it right back.”
The 31-year-old has been enjoying a great season and wants to capitalise on a string of podium finishes that have given him his best ever shot at a British title.
"In terms of results this has got to be the best season I've ever had.
"I'm not wanting to take anything away from anyone else but I don't think that I'm riding the best or fastest I've ever ridden unless I have got faster and it's coming to me a bit easier.
"I think in the past I've laid my ass on the line a lot more for worse results.
"So maybe I am going faster but my brain's caught up which makes it feel a bit easier.”
