MX Diary: EMX300 class out of GPs?
By Team TMX on 14th Jul 16
Apart from the handful of women using a smoker in WMX, the only two-strokes on the world stage next year could be in the European 125 series after the EMX300 class was banished from the provisional GP schedule.
FIM Europe issued its calendar at the same time as Geneva put out the GP dates and it shows 10 rounds of EMX250, nine 125 rounds, six for the Honda 150s, the
kids on 65s and 85s at Loket and no races for the 300s.
‘From 2017 the EMX300 Two-stroke Championship will not be combined with the MXGP/MX2 events,' stated a press release on July 1. ‘Therefore applications are invited from Federations to organise rounds of this growing championship. The EMX300 Championship can be combined with EMX 65/85 zone rounds or with EMX Quad events or even as stand-alone rounds combined with national championships. Applications should be sent to the FIM Europe Secretariat before the end of July.'
GL12 Racing boss Bob Buchanan, a staunch supporter of the class who runs contenders Brad Anderson and Lewis Gregory in the championship, remains optimistic of the series' future at GPs.
"Having been in the EMX300 from the very first round in Bulgaria in 2014 with 13 riders on the gate and helped it grow into the spectacle we all witnessed at Matterley a fortnight ago, I would be one of the most upset to see the class axed from the GPs so if that happens I will express my feelings about it then.
"At the moment everything is provisional and myself and other interested parties are working to ensure that the class and the sweet smell of premix is still present at some of the rounds next year.”
