MX Diary: French toast
By Team TMX on 24th Aug 16
Thomas Ramette beat MXGP championship contender Valentin Guillod to take victory at the Lunel Supercross on the French Riviera.
The Frenchman, riding for the British-owned SR75 Molson Racing Suzuki team, won his semi after a rain-hit qualification and led the Main Event from Guillod from the start with Cedric Soubeyras third.
After the disappointment of last week when he lost the SX Tour title on a tie-breaker it was the perfect response from Ramette and the team.
"What a night,” he said. "I am very happy as we had the stress with the rain hitting earlier. It turned out the track was perfect and it was great to have Guillod here to test my pace against.”
Ramette's team-mate Cyrille Coulon was in trouble out of the gate but never gave up, fighting back from ninth to sixth at the flag.
Team owner Geoff Walker was delighted by his riders' performances.
"The strength shown by Cyrille and Thomas amazes me as they never give in,” he said. "Thomas took things to a different level and this makes me incredibly happy.
"I know how hard this young man works on all aspects of his programme and with his confidence building each week we will be continuing to improve.
"We are enjoying every single day as a team and doing what we do with the very limited budget we have makes each of these days a challenge but it is a challenge we enjoy as a team. I thank everyone who continues to help us build and work for this amazing success.
