MX Diary: Team GB MXoN line-up announced
By Team TMX on 24th Aug 16
Team GBs line-up for the Motocross of Nations at Maggiora on September 25 was announced at Preston Docks on Sunday with Neil Prince selecting Max Anstie, Tommy Searle and Shaun Simpson.
It's an obvious but logical choice with Simpson and Searle sitting 11th and 12th in MXGP and Anstie fourth in MX2 having taken double wins in the last two GPs.
US-based Scot Dean Wilson, who has ridden for the team on a number of occasions, would have been a serious candidate but has only just returned to action after injury.
"Being on the Motocross of Nations team – to be selected out of the top British riders we've got at the moment, to be in the elite three and go and ride for my country ¬– is a great feeling,” said Simpson.
"I've done it many times before but it still feels as special as the first time I got picked back in 2008.
"I'm really looking forward to it and really motivated this year to try and go and do a great job for myself and for the team and I hope the other boys can do the same.
"We've been dreaming of that podium finish for a long time now and I think it's more than overdue so let's go to Maggiora and try and do the business.”
Team Ireland, managed by Philip McCullough, will field Martin Barr, Graeme Irwin and Stuart Edmonds.
