The Maxxis British Motocross Championship supported by Pro Clean heads north of the border this Sunday (July 2) for round five of the series at Leuchars in Fife.

Over the years the sandy track, just south of Dundee, has been a favourite venue for major youth meetings but this will be the first time an event of this size has been staged there.

Defending champion Shaun Simpson (Wilvo Virus KTM) will enjoy rare home advantage as he bids to make it three MX1 titles in a row but a question mark still hangs over the Scot's fitness as he struggles to recover from a broken hand.

Simpson leads Tommy Searle (Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki) by 21 points who is counting the cost of an expensive mechanical DNF while leading the first race at Desertmartin.

Currently third in the standings, Jake Nicholls (Hitachi REVO Husqvarna) took the overall last time out and will be looking to carry this momentum into Scotland and close the 39-point gap to the leader.Currently fourth and fifth in the championship, Buildbase Honda team-mates Kristian Whatley and Graeme Irwin are both genuine podium threats along with Brad Anderson (Verde Racing KTM).

MX2 is in danger of developing into a two-horse race between Apico Husqvarna team-mates Steven Clarke and Bryan MacKenzie.

Local hero MacKenzie trails Clarke by 13 points and knows his way around the Leuchars circuit better than most which should hand him the advantage.

Currently sitting third a further seven points off the pace, Martin Barr (Buildbase Honda) is still struggling with a shoulder injury and will have to dig deep if he's to stay in contention. He's also under pressure from fourth-placed Adam Sterry (Wilvo Virus KTM) who won both motos at Desertmartin as he continues his comeback from injury.

In the MXY2 series James Carpenter (Phoenix Tools Honda) has won three out of the last four motos to open up a 37-point gap at the top of the table from Henry Williams (RFX KTM).

Leuchars is situated next to the RAF base off the A91 just north of St Andrews. Postcode is KY16 0DP.
