MX DIARY: MXoN teams finalised
By Sean Lawless on 3rd Sep 15
Britain, France and USA are the three favourites for the Motocross of Nations at Ernee on September 26/27.
A total of 35 federations have entered teams including, for the first time, Morocco.
Italy has eliminated itself from the fight for major placings after naming a junior team of Ivo Monticelli, Michele Cervellin and Samuele Bernardini after Tony Cairoli withdrew.
"I will ride the last GP at Glen Helen,” said Cairoli, "but I do not yet know if I will be fit. If I don't feel good at Glen Helen I don't have to race but I cannot commit myself to race for my country and let it down.”
As a result the FMI has also decided to race without David Philippaerts and Davide Guarneri.
Belgian team manager Joel Smets is still hoping that Ken De Dycker can get back on a bike in time to take over from Kevin Strijbos, out for the year after a hand operation last week.
Marnicq Bervoets indicated that neither Brent Van Doninck nor Damon Graulus are available.
"Each of them only rode a 450 once and there is no time when we get back from the US for testing,” he said. "Add to that the pressure of riding for your country and the chances are they would get hurt.”
Jens Getteman, on standby, broke his leg on Saturday in Assen after setting second fastest time in first practice.
