MX Diary: Phoenix hots up
By Team TMX on 14th Aug 15
The second half of the Phoenix Tools/iFly Premier Championship kicks off on Sunday (August 16) with a return to Wiltshire following the previous rounds excursion to Pontrilas.
Marshfield is the venue for round six of the South West's biggest championship and the series' fastest man so far is Shane Carless who leads the Pro Expert class by 41 points from Jamie Skuse.
Alfie Smith's third ahead of Ross Keyworth with Alex Snow fifth.
Other top riders include Patchquick Trophy winner Jake Shipton, Kelvin Townsend, James Harrison and Ross Hill.
In the Tony Maunders Expert Open class it's Charlie Putnam who heads the standings by 23 points from David Keet and just eight points further back is two-stroke hero James Kensington who won the last round at Pontrilas.
Jack Stevens, Ben Butler, Jake Penny and Josh Taylor will all be hoping to be in the mix.
In the MD Racing over age classes defending Over 35 champion Nick Life will be returning after missing the last round.
Nick still leads the championship but had his lead cut to just 14 points at the last round by Rick Hanson.
It won't just be the Nick and Rick show though and Stephen Elford, Carl Dezis and Jamie Deadman – who took the win at the last round – should be running up front.
Over 40s leader Terry House tops the standings by 77 points from round five winner Chris Brown who will be looking for a repeat performance but there are many others capable of causing an upset including Richard Green, David Ford, Rob Lewis and Richard Tapscott.
In the Over 50s defending champion Mark Gleadhill has a massive lead over Graham Beale and Beale will have to be at his best if he's to maintain that second spot as Adrian Toy is just 10 points behind.
An on-form Jamie Carpenter leads the Tyremarks Junior class but there's no shortage of talent lining up beside him including Billy King, Jay Lewis and Josh House plus many more who are all capable of winning races.
Marshfield is a fast flowing track with easy parking and will be signposted off the A46. Postcode is SN14 8JG and the first race starts at 10.30am.
There are still a few spaces left in all classes – for more info ring Greta Edwards on 01884 840078.
