Adam Sterry just misses out on Mantova Qualifying win – best career result for the British rider
By Team TMX on 11th May 19
Adam Sterry raced to his best-ever finish in the MX2 Qualifying moto at the 2019 MXGP of Lombardia.
The F&H Kawasaki rider led the way as the front of the pack came out of the opening turns with team-mate Henry Jacobi close behind.
They were followed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Tom Vialle in third place, while team-mate and MX2 world champion didn't get off to a great start but would scythe his way through the field for a fourth at the flag.
Out front, Jacobi pressured Sterry and took the lead but it didn't last long as Jacobi tipped over to allow the Brit back into the lead.
Behind them, Ben Watson crashed around lap seven while challenging Vialle Watson's off would drop him back into seventh place and he would finish in sixth.
With just two laps to go, Vialle had a spectacular crash which left the rider at the back of the field. There's no word yet on his status. Update: Vialle says he's OK and all good for Sunday.
A few corners later on the same lap and Sterry couldn't hold back Thomas Kjer Olsen as the Dane found a spot to pass. Although the British rider would just miss out on his first race win, he took the chequers in second place for a world championship career-best finish.
