MXGP of Oman announced in 2022 MXGP calendar update
By Andrew Hill on 11th Mar 22
The MXGP of Oman will now be the final round of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship, with a new venue and date revealed. In addition, Infront and the FIM has also announced that the MXGP of Italy will replace round seven of the series with legendary Maggiora hosting on May 7-8.
The revision comes after the MXGP of MFR was cancelled due to sanctions from the FIM.
The support classes remain unchanged, with EMX250 and EMX Open riders in action on the Italian circuit for their third and fourth rounds of the series.
In addition, the September round previously shown as 'TBA' now has a venue, with Mussanah hosting for the debut of the MXGP of Oman. The promoters have moved the date for this event, and it will now take place on September 9-10 (Friday and Saturday).
The FIM and Infront gave no reason for the date change, but if we were to guess, it could be taking into account a possible World Supercross Championship round. However, this is speculation, with the all-new series yet to reveal its calendar.
While those dates are not in direct conflict with the final British championship round, which is set for September 10-11 (Pro riders on the 11th), it would be impractical for travel and logistics. The move from May 1 to May 7-8 for round seven (Maggiora, Italy) of the MXGP series sets up a clash with the Lyng round. RHL has previously stated that they would not move any of their dates once the final MXGB was set. We'll let you know if this changes. You can see the updated 2022 MXGP calendar below.
The YZ bLU cRU Superfinale has been moved from the final round, and will instead take place during the MXGP of Charente Maritime (France) in St Jean dAngely on August 20-21. The WMX round due to be held in France has been removed without mention from Infront, cutting the FIM Women's Motocross World Championship down to five rounds.
