FORMER FIM World Superbike Champion, Neil Hodgson, has suffered a collapsed lung, dislocated shoulder and injured ribs after crashing while training on a motocross bike. (The Burnley-born rider raced motocross as a youth before switching to road-racing.)
The former WSB champion crashed from his machine and was taken to hospital in California with breathing difficulties.
Hodgson races for the Corona Extra Honda team in the AMA Superbike Championship and was lying second in the series after the opening round at Daytona.
Hodgson has been replaced by Jake Holden for the second round of the championship at Fontana this weekend.
The team expect Hodgson to return for round three at Barber in May.
