Motocross

LAST Sunday the opening round of the 2009 Remedies Bar Motocross Championship took place at Little Silver Moto Parc in front of a bumper crowd, and with the sun shining, the track was perfect and it produced some fast and exhilarating racing.

In the MX1 class it was defending champion Andrew Gillett who was to notch up two wins and a second to open his 2009 account. John May was quickest in timed practice and led the opening race, but on lap four he ran wide and Gillett took the lead with Terry House taking third.
In the second moto it was nearly a repeat performance with May getting the holeshot, but Gillett again was breathing all over him and took the lead on lap two.
This time May was determined and fought right back and regained the lead two laps later taking the win.
In the last race it was a disastrous start for May as he was involved in a big pile-up on the first corner and was totally last away. House had the holeshot in this one from Gillett, but a first lap spill by House was to drop him right back. Gillett went on to take the win, but it was May eventually after fighting his way back through the field who was rewarded with second.
In the MX2 class, it was Will Worden who took the holeshot in the first leg and eased away at the front. Defending champion Darren Shears did close a bit in the closing stages but it was to no avail and Worden took the win with Tom Harvey third.
In race two it was Shears with the best start from Nick Wadge with Worden was back in fifth. Shears started to get away, but on lap four he was to go off the track and under a rope which dropped him back. Wadge took the lead momentarily as Worden was now hot on his tail and it was the latter who hit the front on the same lap. Wadge kept with Worden ready to pounce on any mistakes, but it wasn't to be and Worden took his second win of the day with Kelvin Townsend taking third.
