Neil's Sun shine

NORTHALLERTON and DMC held its annual Pre-65 and Twin-shock Trial at the popular and picturesque venue of the Sun Inn, Bilsdale. Not only does this provide ample parking, camping and caravan space, but it becomes the hub for the entire weekend and is one of the best supported events on the East Yorkshire calendar.
Riders converge from the far corners of thecountry to compete. This not only speaks volumes for the sheerenthusiasm of the Pye family, but also for everyone involved in makingit special, both socially and on the competitive front.
Clerk of the course, Bill Pye, laid out a superbcourse and ran it with military precision throughout. Some 122 ridersrode four-laps of ten-sections on Saturday, increasing to 12 sectionsfor Sunday and Monday. To hear these great bikes barking out on thissteep rocky moorside is pure music.
On Saturday, planned slightly easier, five ridersremained unpenalised - Phil Wiffen and Roger Williams in the Twin-shockcategory, Neil Gaunt and Colin Bailey in Pre-unit and Dave Pye in theUnit Construction class. Though 72 years of age, Derek Brookes didn'tfinish the day on clean, but he had one hell of a ride for just sixdabs.
