O'Leary's Warm reception
By TMX Archives on 15th Aug 07
IT'S certainly getting very tight at the top of the AMCA 125cc championship table, as reigning champ, Brad O'Leary now leads the way by just a single point following round four staged at Warmingham, Cheshire, on Sunday.
Having been in pole position since the opening round in May, PhilMercer slipped back to second spot after failing to score points inmoto three at Warmingham - he fell and was unable to fire his bike backto life.
Taking the overall 125cc win was the very much on-form Lee Payne. Following his podium
placing at the previous round at Anchor Hill, Lee has now definitelyhauled himself into serious title contention, trailing Mercer by just18-points with four rounds still remaining. Taking the final podiumplace on Sunday was a relieved Mark Hooley, hopefully now clear of ademoralising run of misfortune.
In the Open class, Ben Saunders slightly extended his advantage to 20-points ahead of David Campbell.
Also earning the top two steps on the podium, Saunders and Campbellwere made to work very hard on Sunday though by Clinton Barrs. Afterbriefly leading moto two, Barrs
produced a great ride in the final race to earn a richly deserved win. While Charlie Hollis still retains third in
the title chase, Barrs performance on Sunday has seen him move up into fourth above Aaron Crowder.
O'Leary led the first 125cc championship charge with Owen Delaney and avery determined Scott Mathia in tow. Unfortunately for Mathia, the racewas rather short-lived after he painfully twisted his knee. With Mathiaout, Hooley then took up the challenge but could not prevent O'Learyfrom claiming another vital win with Payne third, Delaney fourth andMercer fifth.
