Motocross

The depth of talent contesting this years Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship is the best weve seen for years.

And it's anyone's guess who's going to win at Lyng on Sunday, April 6, when round two is staged at Cadders Hill.

In MX1 there's series leader Shaun ‘Woody' Simpson, local heroes Jake Nicholls and Elliott Banks-Browne, reigning champ Kristian Whatley, talented teen Nathan Watson, GP winner Gert Krestinov, former champ Brad Anderson – the list
is longer than the A47 (which just so happens to be the main road in)...

MX2 is looking equally stacked with Mel Pocock and Matiss Karro tied at the top after the opening round at Landrake in mid March.

Just below them in the points table, Frenchman Steven Lenoir, South African Neville Bradshaw and Scotsman Bryan MacKenzie all have the speed to win races.

Cadders Hill is a sandy, old-school natural track that cuts up super-rough as the day progresses.

Always prepped to perfection by the organising Norwich Viking MCC, this year the club has gone all-out to ensure the circuit will be in prime condition for the UK's No.1 domestic series.

Winner at Landrake, Simpson (HM Plant KTM) heads to Lyng on the back of a disappointing 16th overall at the Brazilian GP.

Finishing three places ahead of the Scot in Beto Carrero, Nicholls (Wilvo Forkrent KTM) appears to be getting over his back injury and is looking increasingly at home on the MX1 machine following his move from MX2.With neither Simpson or Nicholls contesting the championship in 2013 Kristian Whatley (MBO Sport Yamaha) was the man on top – and we saw at the opening round that even though he's not contesting GPs he's got the speed to run with them both. A broken finger sustained at Landrake still hasn't fully healed but despite his skinny frame K-What's a tough guy who doesn't like to lose.

Landrake saw Karro (Wilvo Forkrent KTM) dominate in the MX2 class with wins in the opening two races, before a couple of final moto crashes dumped the Latvian back into the clutches of Pocock (HM Plant KTM UK).

Despite failing to win a race, Mel Jnr's super-consistent 2-2-3 card was good enough to force a tie-break, which he won with his better final race result.

Lenoir (Dantec Husqvarna UK) and Bradshaw (Putoline Apico Honda) have had a pretty fierce rivalry over the last couple of seasons and could drag each other to the front.

And what about DBR's favourite roadside shoe-spotting Scot Bryan MacKenzie (Pendrich Kawasaki), winner of Landrake's final moto?

If Deep Fry Bry can string three good races together – like he did last year in the sand at Desertmartin – then he could very well make a return to the top of the podium.

Lyng also marks the start of the Maxxis MXY2 Championship with a full line-up of youngsters hoping to make their mark
on the same programme as the pros.

Lyng will be signposted off the A47 trunk road approximately five miles west of Norwich.

Postcode for satnav users is NR9 5QZ. The action gets under way at 9am with practice and qualifying with the first race
at 12:15pm.

Admission is £20 for adults, £5 for children under 15 and no charge for children under five. Family tickets are available at £45. For more information about the championship go to www.mxgb.co.uk
