Report: BSMA Finals - Culham Motoparc

Last weekend the BSMA Finals, sponsored by Devil Lubricants, took place at a well prepared Culham Motoparc. The weather was on side for this event and with the sun shining the AMX/ Open classes were first to the line.

Although these classes raced together, the points were scored separately. In moto one there was a close race between Paul Neale and, back from injury Rob Yates. Neale came out with the win, but never far from them both was Lee Truman, as Jack Timms took four and Jack Hunt fifth.

In race two Neale suffered a DNF. Yates and Truman were again up at the front with Yates again taking the win from Truman with a consistent Timms taking third. Hunt and Cook placed fourth and fifth respectively.

In race three, fast gating Yates was again to the fore with Neale, Truman, Timms and Jack Hunt making up the top five positions.

On day two, with the sun shining down there was a change in positions. Neale claimed the win ahead of Yates, with Timms third, Truman fourth and Hunt fifth.

Come the final moto Yates took the win from Neale, Truman and Jack Timms. Yates took the overall in the AMX class ahead of Lee Truman.

In the Open class Matt Ridgeway claimed the opening win ahead of a fast gating Chris Grindle, with Andy Fitzgerald and Alan Pearce battling for third and fourth.

In moto two Ridgway was out in front while Pearce took second spot from Fitzgerald with Karl Haycock in four and Kevin Curtin fifth.

In the final moto on the first day there was a new winner in Chris Grindle, who must have had a problem in race two, as was not in the top five. However he bounced back to take the win from Pearce with Ridgway in third ahead of Fitzgerald with a consistent Curtin, fifth.

On day two Ridgway was back on form with a win with Fitzgerald, Haycock, Pearce and Curtin completing top five.

The final motto of the day again saw Ridgeway take the win from Pearce with Fitzgerald, Curtin and Daniel Pounder completing the top five.

Next on the start-line was the Auto class with fast and close racing. In the opener, Freddie Bartlett was out in ahead of Freddie Gardner with Joey Benfield third just ahead from Hayden Yeend and Charlie Hucklebridge.

Race two marked a change in leader with Freddie Gardner taking the win from Freddie Bartlett with only 0.388 seconds between them. Joey Benfield claimed third from Charlie Hucklebridge. The final moto on day one saw Bartlett back to form with the win from Gardner with Benfield third. Archie Clarke took fourth from Hayden Yeend.

Freddie Bartlett was on a mission on day two and he claimed the win from Freddie Gardner with Shane Jones third and Archie Clarke fourth and Hayden Yeend fifth.

In the fifth and final moto a flying Freddie Bartlett took the win from Joey Benfield with Gardner third, while Jones and Hucklebridge were fourth and fifth respectively. With four wins from five starte Freddie Bartlett emerged as the overall winner aheady of Freddie Gardner, with Joey Benfield, Shane Jones and Charlie Hucklebridge completing the top five positions.

The combined Senior and Senior Open classes were next in action, though were scored separately. These riders produced some very close and exciting racing.

In Senior Open Ieuan Harris was flying on day one with three straight wins. In race one Brooklyn Evans finished second ahead of John Mckenzie and Jaydon Murphy with Luke Scarsbrook in fifth spot.

With Harris taking the win from Evans with Mckenzie third, Adam Hill was fourth and Callum Evans fifth.

The final race on day one saw Harris again take the win from Evans, Mckenzie, Scarsbrook with Dan Troughton taking fifth.

Day two saw a change of winner in Senior Open as John Mckenzie posted two wins to finish second overall. Brooklyn Evans finishing with a second and third places to give him third overall. Scarsbrook taking a third and fourth in the final two motos finishing fourth overall, Harris was fourth and a second was all he needed to complete the weekend with a win overall, with Adam Hill picking up the fifth overall spot.

Over in the Senior 125cc class Sam Beresford took the win from Owen Woodhouse with Ryan Manley third, while Harry Williams and Declan Roden were fourth and fifth.

In moto two Beresford was out in front from Woodhouse. Aaron Powell claimed third from Manley and Williams.

The Senior 125cc was dominated on day one by Sam Beresford from Woodhouse, with consistent racing from Manley in third, Jack Samuel in fourth and back from injury Jamie Evans in fifth.

With a third and a win in moto five Sam Beresford was the overall Sebior 125cc champion. A win and a second saw Owen Woodhouse take second from Ryan Manley, with Jack Samuel and Jamie Evans fourth and fifth.

The Junior 65cc included fast gating Keelan Hope who took the first moto from Lewis Roden with Tyler Smith, Ellis Poole and Archie Taylor fourth and fiifth.

In moto two Roden grabbed the holeshot and charged on to victory from Hope with Jacob Harley in third Taylor fourth and Smith fifth.

With close racing between all top five, last race on day one saw a switch back to race one winner Hope ahead of Roden, with Ellis Poole from Tyler Smith and Archie Taylor.

On day two Keelan was on form for a first race, and with a fourth place in the last moto he claimed the weekend overall.

Only two points separated the top two. Hope finished second. Lewis Roden the overall. With a second and a third Ellis Poole claimed third overall.

Small-wheel 85cc boasted a top quality field with a number of potential winners. Ben Watkins topped the first moto from Charlie Griffiths, Billy Duke, Jak Taylor and Jake Smith in a very close race.

Watkins claimed victory in the second moto ahead of from Harrison McCann, Charlie Griffiths, Duke and Taylor.

In the last moto of day one McCann took victory with Billy Duke not far behind. Ben Watkins was third with a good ride from Harvey Tillotson in fourth and Charlie Griffiths fifth.

On day two Billy Duke take two wins to give him the overall win over the weekend. A second and a fifth on day two gave Griffiths third overall. Second overall went to Ben Watkins.

With a lot of top riders Big-wheel 85cc made for exciting and close racing. However the class was dominated by fast gating Dominic Lancett, though a problem in his final race spoilt his maximum over the weekend. Never far behind and second overall was Callum Beeken, ahead of James Hanscomb.
