LOW North Park, Harwood Dale, will once again recall the glorious days of a past era as Scarborough and DMC host its aptly named Sporting Weekend on July 3/4.With the majority of riders and families staying in tents, caravans or motorhomes, it really does live up to its name. The ever present Pete Race is clerk of the course and section layout, which is so important to the events success, falls to that craggy old former grass-tracker from Helmsley, Frank Hildrick, and friends 'Foxy' and Harold Wilson.
Front runners could be the Fishburn lad, last year's winner, Eddie Aitkin, Duncan McDonald and first timer Robin Luscombe, all mounted on Triumph Cubs.
In the Pre-Unit class Colin Bailey (Ariel), Mick Watson (Gold Star) and Russ Rooksby (Ariel) should produce a good scrap, while Malc Cocking and Kev Chapman will make the valley ring out as they stay true to their Triumph Twins.
Ian Barker is once again the iron man as he should lead the way in rigid class on his 600cc Norton
Over in the Pre 65 Clubman class the hard riding Derek Brooks is on a beautiful little Francis Barnet, with Brian Irwin and James Jardine on Cubs, but a name that stands out in this class is Alan Poole, the East Yorks scrambles star of the 'sixties and 'seventies era, riding a BSA.
Start on Saturday is 1pm with two-laps of 15 sections. On Sunday the action gets under way at 10am for a course of three laps of 15-sections.
Let battle commence.
