MEMBERS of the Richmond Motor Club Scott Trial Committee met representatives of local charities and organisations last Friday evening at the Bridge Inn, Grinton, Yorkshire, to present the trial's annual charitable donations.

The fantastic sum of £8,500, raised from the 2006 Scott Trial, (staged on Saturday, October 21) has been donated with over 20 local charities benefiting.

Monies were raised through entry fees for the classic time and observation trial, through programme advertising and sales, souvenir sales, riders' sponsorship money, and last but not least the annual charity auction.

An additional sum of over £1,500 was raised by two riders who collected sponsor money and donated funds directly to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, bringing the overall total raised in conjunction with the 2006 trial to more than £10,000.

Scott Trial clerk of the course, John Fraser, presented the cheques to representatives of the various charities, after firstly thanking all the land owners and the many people who give their time and who help to make the amazing and unique trial possible. John reported that since Richmond Motor Club took over the running of the Scott Trial, 16 years ago, over £70,000 has been raised for many local charities and organisations.

Those receiving donations this year include: Swaledale Scouts, Swaledale Mountain Rescue, Riding For The Disabled Association (Richmond & Catterick), Sharecare, Reeth Community Primary School, Gunnerside Methodist Primary School, Ravensworth Church of England Primary School, Arkengarthdale Church of England Primary School, Mowbray School, Friarage Special Care Baby Unit , Great North Air Ambulance, MacMillan Cancer Support, Leyburn County Primary School, Reeth Young Farmers Club, Swaledale Seedlings Playgroup, St John's Day Centre Wednesday Club, Reeth & District Development Fund (Sports Pavilion), Royal Agricultural Benevolent Fund, Friends of the 2 Dales Nursery, Dales Support Group Multiple Sclerosis Society, Reeth Sports Association, Richmond Mayor's Charities.
