Second helpings for Scottish Motocross Championship

Clayshant, near Stranraer, in the very southwest of Scotland hosts the second round of the Scottish Motocross Championship this weekend.

An absolute dream to get to thanks to the revamped A75 that offers free-flowing motoring right from the M74 motorway at Gretna Green, and also just a few short miles from the Cairnryan ferry port making it equally as dreamy for riders travelling from Northern Ireland, the sandy circuit is situated on the southern coastline and overlooks the Solway Firth - so keep an eye out for seals frolicking in the water. More importantly Clayshant's sandy terrain and gentle slopes will be one of few rideable locations this weekend, following terrible floods in the UK this week, and with big prize money up for grabs, amazing racing is guaranteed.

Tristan Purdon holds the MX1 series lead after round one at Tain but he'll face stiffer competition at Clayshant

South Africa’s Tristan Purdon comes in with the points lead in the MX1 championship after a dominant performance in the deep sand of Tain. Brad Todd, Martin Barr, Ben Edwards and Carlton Husband round out the top five in the championship after round one.

The big news this weekend is not just the return of 2023 Champion John Adamson, but the return from injury of Conrad Mewse. Both riders missed round one but are set to compete in the remaining rounds.

With Tristan Purdon also missing one round due to a clash with the AMA Nationals later this year, the door has been thrown wide open to at least 10 different riders.
Englishmen Brad Todd and Carlton Husband, Irishmen Martin Barr and Jason Meara and the hometown Scottish favourites of Ben Edwards, Billy Mackenzie, Tony Craig and former seven-time champ Ross Rutherford, all have a realistic chance to get their hands on the Donald Sinclair Trophy now.

Charlie Heyman dominated the MX2 division at Tain and is looking for another strong performance at Clayshant

Charlie Heyman is the strong favourite for the MX2 title having dominated Tain with three wins. Ryan Thomson sits in second after round one and Lee Cameron is in third.
In the Vets, Barry Gray leads the Over 40 championship with Richard Miller leading the Over 50s and Les Winthrop top dog in the Over 60 class. 2 Stroke Open championship leader is Ryan Thompson and Andrew Pohlen leads the 2 Stroke 150cc class.
The Youth Championships are led by Finlay Hoskisson (Auto50cc), Szymon Skuratowski (65cc), Jimmy McCann (SW85cc), Malachi Allan (BW85cc), Robbie Scott (Youth 125cc) and Matt Fearnley (Youth 250cc).

The paddock opens at 5pm on Friday the 12th (that’s today). Youths and 2 Strokes race on Saturday and then it’s the Pros and Amateurs on Sunday.

Online entry closes at noon but day entries for most classes are available by contacting the Scottish Motocross Championship on Facebook. Please check availability before travelling.
