Simpson and Ramon sign-up for Weston

Shaun Simpson and Steve Ramon will be just two of the big names competing at this year's RHL Beach Race at Weston, the 30th anniversary of the United Kingdoms biggest off-road event.
Simpson, a regular frontrunner in the World MX1 Championship aboard the factory Monster Yamaha YZF450FM, is a former podium finisher at the Beach Race at Weston, but the 24-year-old Scot heads to the event this year with his sights set firmly on the top step of the podium.
Simpson will face stiff competition, however, as Steve Ramon, a winner at Weston in 2007, will return to take on the infamous beach front course this year.
The two-time World Champion and seven-time Belgian Champion has now recovered from the injury he sustained at Lommel last year and is already testing with the Buildbase Honda team, ahead of his return to competition in 2013.
Tom Church – another former podium finisher at Weston – will also be on the start line at this year's event, to round out a season in which he finished as the runner-up on his debut in the ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship.
Negotiations are also ongoing with the reigning World MX2 Champion, Jeffrey Herlings, and two-time British champion, Brad Anderson, both of whom are keen to take on the challenge of the Weston course.
"While the RHL Beach Race at Weston is more about the ordinary riders rather than the big stars of motocross or enduro, it's always good to have someone to measure yourself against,” explains Gareth Hockey, director of RHL Activities. "And who better to measure yourself against than a two-time world champion like Steve Ramon, a front-runner in the World MX1 Championship like Shaun Simpson?
"We're also in negotiations to bring the reigning MX2 World Champion, Jeffrey Herlings, to the RHL Beach Race at Weston for the first time this year. Hopefully we'll be able to confirm this soon, as we can't wait to hear his thoughts on how Weston compares as a challenge to lifting the MX2 world title!”
But the riders aren't the only additions to this year's Beach Race. RHL Activities is pleased to announce that one of Europe's largest online MX retailers, 24MX, has come onboard as a sponsor of the event for the first time.
Launched in 2005, 24MX has firmly established itself in the marketplace over the past eight years, with more than 230,000 satisfied customers served.
"We're also very pleased that 24MX will be supporting the Beach Race this year. It is fitting that one of the biggest retailers of MX apparel and parts will now be associated with one of the biggest off-road events in Europe and we're looking forward to welcoming them into the Weston family,” concluded Hockey.
Entries close for the 30th anniversary edition of the RHL Beach Race at Weston on September 30.
