Nunny lands a dream ride with Champ KTM AS ONE door closes another one opens - and the tired old cliché has never been truer for 25-year-old British MX star Carl Nunn. As reported in last month's dbr, Nunny was left high and dry after his team folded at a time of the year when all the deals had been done and vacant rides filled. But after the RTT Honda door slammed shut in his face, the Champ KTM door swung wide open and Carl now finds himself with a dream GP ride on the super-quick factory 125cc two-stroke campaigned to such good effect in '04 by Tyla Rattray. "A couple of months ago Kurt Nicoll was kind of interested but heard I was staying with RTT so nothing happened," says Carl. "But KTM UK caught wind of what was going on and that got the ball rolling again. They'd actually stopped the 125 programme because they felt they didn't have a rider capable of finishing in the top three. "It's good for me to know that they have that sort of faith in me and I think on that bike I am capable of top three." Carl had a couple of influential allies fighting for a European deal for him but at one stage he was seriously considering a move to the USA. "Trevor Avery at Multitek and Ash Kane from Fox were both trying to put something together for me and I really appreciate that. I thought I was going to end up in America - the ball was rolling over there and, obviously, it's always been an ambition of mine to go but with such a young daughter I think next year would have been too early. "Really the whole RTT thing was a blessing in disguise. I was in a hole and didn't know what to do but it all seems to have come together at the right time. I never expected a team like KTM to get on the phone."
