Motocross

RINGWOOD MCC, one of the oldest motorcycle clubs in the country, and the Perce Simon trial, are synonymous. In Hampshire we are lucky to have two Lords who are very keen on motorcycling, Lord Montague and Lord Normandy who owns the Somerley Estate, where the trials started and finished at Ashley Hollow last Saturday.

At 3am on Saturday morning, I awoke to the house shaking in 100mph winds and horizontal rain and had severe doubts as the whether this great trial, which is now part of the Sammy Miller Championships, could indeed take place. But, by 8.30, the wind had dropped and the sky cleared and we were ready for the start of the penultimate round of the series, which was duly sponsored by Richard and Jackie from Sammy Miller Products.

Down to business for Kevin

IF the previous day's Perce Simon Trial was held in terrible weather conditions then The Downlands Cup was the exact opposite. The final round of the 2009 Sammy Miller Products Championship hosted by the North Berkshire Club started out from West Hagbourne. It was just a perfect day for a 22-mile ride around this part of the Oxfordshire countryside taking in no less than 35 solo and 33 sidecar sections.

The chairs set out at 9am with the first solos following some ten minutes later to ensure the event was all completed in daylight, but as it turned out, time didn't turn out to be a problem at all.

Nappers Lane was the first group visited and these two subs caused few difficulties. Neither did the following five at The Moors and many remained clean as the entry came around to Seymours Arena.
