THERE was a healthy crowd of around 10,000 spectators present to witness the climax of this season's World Supermoto Championship at the Spanish resort of Salou, where Thierry Van den Bosch and Adrien Chareyre wrapped-up the S1 and S2 class crowns respectively. The races were run in bright sunny conditionsFrench rider Thomas Chareyre took victory in both S1 motos but it was not enough to reel in Van den Bosch and he lost the title to the Frenchman.

Italy's Ivan Lazzarini was second both on the podium and in the final championship standings while Belgian, Eddy Seel, completed the top three on the day.

Gerard Delepine won the S2 class in the event ahead of Mark Burkhart and Fabrizio Bartolini while Adrien Chareyre secured his third world title at the conclusion of race one, at the age of just 23.

Starting off from first on the grid after his Superpole win, Husqvarna's Thomas Chareyre led the pack into the first corner followed by Davide Gozzini and Lazzarini. The smart Frenchman edged away in the early stages of the race while the two Italians scrapped over second and Chareyre eventually took a well-deserved win.

Lazzarini was an eventual second but, despite his best efforts, he could not manage to close the gap on Chareyre. TM Factory rider Gozzini settled for third after losing the runner-up spot to Lazzarini.

On the other hand his team-mate Van den Bosch, leading the S1 title-chase, made up for a warm-up lap crash at the Sky section with ninth in the combined standings. He had started from 16th on the grid after a disastrous qualifying session and found himself with a narrower advantage over Chareyre and Lazzarini.
