Stewart threepeats with Anaheim win
By TMX Archives on 8th Feb 07
JAMES Stewart became the first ever premier class rider to sweep all three Anaheim supercross races last Saturday night as the factory Kawasaki rider and AMA Supercross championship leader took the win at A3, round five of the 2007 AMA series. In a closely fought and at times aggressive race, Stewart eventually beat L&M Yamaha's Chad Reed by just 1.5 seconds, but suffered booing from sections of the crowd as he mounted the podium to celebrate his victory following a hard winning pass on Reed that many obviously thought too hard.
It was not perhaps how Stewart had imagined his record-breaking night to end, but it's the points that count and Stewart got more of them than Reed, extending his points lead slightly further over the Australian to 18.
There was more to celebrate in the Kawasaki camp at the end of the night too as Pro Circuit teamster Ryan Villopoto continued his dominance in the Lites class and also made it an Anaheim sweep with a runaway 16-second victory over Josh Grant and Jason Lawrence that sees the defending AMA motocross champion extend his championship lead to a big 31 points over Lawrence.
