Thorpe's got six appeal

DAN Thorpe won the National Bemrose Trial at Buxton on Sunday from top teenager Alez Wigg and Pontefract's Liam Walker in what was a true cliff-hanger finale at Danebower where the winter sun changed to a chilling wind blast across the north Derbyshire hills.

In direct contrast to the snow and ice that halted the 2006 trial,Sunday's event ran in bright, sunny but cool weather, with not a hintof snow. Organisers North Derbyshire Youth MCC with Manchester 17 andMacclesfield Trials Club playing a great supporting role, ran what wasa truly classic traditional one day national trial. A great one-lapper,taking the best of what Buxton offers, rocks and rivers, all skaty, unpredictable and tricky but a great variation. The organisers did ringthe changes by bringing slippery Kidtor as the opening group insteadWrights, the few yards from the start at Haslin Farm where thelimestone rocks and grass traditionally kicked the trial into gear.
