TMX Says: Best day ever

Off-road riding/ racing can be a brutal business and Im fairly sure that anyone whos ever thrown their leg over a bike will know the morning after ache that seems to last longer and longer and longer the older and older you get.

With a stack of sporting action going off over the weekend, starring riders of all ages, I reckon that a fair few of you will still be feeling that ache today – and it's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?

I woke up after the weekend feeling a little sore myself and for once it had bugger all to do with motorbikes. In the run up to the weekend about a million and one people asked me if I'd be at Mexico, Spain, Farleigh, Whitby, Norley or

Sparrowpit and my answer was consistently the same – I won't be at any of them but I have a really good reason why. Mysterious, huh?

And that reason is because I took the day off work, turned my phone off, put on a natty suit, gelled my hair and made the ultimate commitment to the love of my life – I got married!

I can honestly say I've never been more nervous but as things turned out it was absolutely brilliant and I loved every minute of it.

Without wittering on and on, I'd say it definitely ranks as one of the highlights of my life so far (the rest of which most definitely are dirt bike related except for the birth of our little Arthur) and was surprisingly tiring – hence the achiness on Monday...

While many people will have entered this week on a high, we should all spare a thought for the friends and family of Tom Pattison who was killed in a racing accident at Blaxhall on Sunday.

I never knew Tom myself but what I do know is that he was held in high regard by a lot of good people.

It really saddens me that stuff like this happens at all and even more so that it seems to be happening more and more frequently.

Riding a motorcycle at speed across rough terrain is definitely dangerous and we all know the risks.

It seems that no matter how skilled a rider is or how much quality protection they wear, or even how well their bike is prepared – apparently, this could happen to any one of us at any time and that's quite a sobering thought.

So, I guess the moral of this story is to live life to the full and enjoy each and every moment.

By being an off-road enthusiast you're already living a life that's richer than that of any average Joe and if that means you ache all week after an event and have to walk a little bit funny as a result then that's a relatively small price to pay...
