Motocross

ON Sunday, the Remedies Bar Motocross Championship made its first visit of the year to Whiteway Barton for round four in the current series. Again, as has been the case with most events in the South West recently, a lot of rain had fallen prior to and during the event, which made things a bit slippery and this produce many different race winners.
In the Expert Open class, Andrew Gillett made a welcome return to racing, back after breaking both his tibia and fibula last year. He was immediately back to his winning ways by taking the win in the first open race after passing John May still not fully fit after dislocating his shoulder.
In race two George Davis scorched off the line for a blistering start and, with clear vision, he used it to his advantage and eased away at the front of the pack. There was a good battle going on behind, between Gillett and Henry Western with Western trying every trick he knew. However, a mistake on the final lap, dropped Western back a bit.
In the last Open race, Gary Roper claimed the best start, but this proved to be short-lived as Western and David Yelland both passed him on the opening lap. Davis and Gillett were right at the back of the field as they had clashed on the opening lap.
Western seemed to enjoy the wet conditions, pulled out a clear advantage and went on to take the win, with Yelland a comfortable second and Kip Herring just holding off May in the closing stages to take third.
It proved a good day for Luke Hill in the Expert 125cc category. He moved to the top of the Championship table after taking a win in the first race and second in the other two motos. Daniel Preston did push Hill in the first encounter, but a rear-wheel puncture brought about an end to his challenge and he suffered a DNF. He made amends of sorts by
winning both the other two motos.
The Over 35 class again was well-supported and produced some excellent racing. In the first moto, Steve Chugg was the early leader, but he was hunted down by Dean Warren who took the front on lap three and stormed away. Series leader, Gary Down, didn't have the best of starts but he was on a mission and moved through the field to claim second. In race two, Warren again took the lead, on lap two, and looked on course to take his second victory. However, that man Down wasn't having any of it and put in two quick laps and caught Warren and passed him two laps from the flag to snatch the win.
In their final encounter Down led from the word go and once he got into his rhythm there was no catching him. He went on to take the win and increased his lead in the points chase.
