Trials Torque: It’s all to play for at another great Lakes
By Team TMX on 7th Oct 15
THIS weekend sees the ever popular Lakes Two Day National trial take place in the superb trials country surrounding the village of Broughton in Furness, Cumbria, which once again plays host.
There's a mighty 184 entrants to look after but with last year's winner James Dabill and runner-up Michael Brown not present this year for various reasons there will be a different name on the Hands Trophy, which is the Premier award.
Ross Danby was third last year so will the Jgas rider (soon to be TRS mounted) make the step up?
He'll be trying hard for sure but there's a ton of top class competition headed by Gas Gas duo Alexz Wigg and Sam Haslam and teenage north Wales ace Iwan Roberts who has really made a major leap forward this year.
Richard Sadler would like to add the Lakes to his growing collection of National trophies but has a long way to go to catch up with Dan Thorpe who has well over 100 to his name.
Then there's the impossible to predict Billy Bolt, riding on his Scorpa sponsor Nigel Birkett's doorstep.
Stir in James Fry, local ace Darren Brice, James Stones, Chris Pearson and the permutations are endless.
The Clubman class was won last year by Graham tales and the Yorkshire vet is back, along with brother Andy, to take on allcomers in this impossible-to-predict contest.
Saturday's 40-section single-lap route, masterminded by Nigel Birkett, Gary, Jake and Joel Gowan, will take in Fell Green, Bootle, via Corney Fell, and will include new groups and sections.
Sunday will take the familiar direction towards Torver and Coniston with Norman Cooper having been the main man.
First man away will be Wayne Alderson at 9am on Saturday from the Auction Mart in Broughton and the action will come thick and fast all weekend.
