BIG news for classic trials riders this week is that entry forms for the 2016 Scottish Pre-65 Two Day Trial (Friday-Saturday, April 29-30) are now available to download from the Pre-65 News page of www.ssdt.org.

If you would prefer to have one posted out, just send a large, stamped, self-addressed envelope to Mrs Anne Gordon, Secretary Pre'65 Scottish Trial, Fairshiels, Blackshiels, Pathhead, Midlothian, EH37 5SX.

All riders please note that email entries or late entries will NOT be accepted.

Unique

The Pre-65 Scottish will, as usual, be based in Kinlochleven, with both days' routes featuring many famous Scottish groups of sections like Cnoc a Linnhe, Caolasnacoan and of course Pipeline.

Plus there are some groups unique to the Two-Day and all in the fantastic location in the Highlands with iconic views of the mountains high above Loch Leven.

As everyone knows who seeks a ride in the Scottish Pre-65, machine eligibility conditions are unique and all machines MUST comply.

A new Machine Eligibility Guidance booklet has been produced this year by Willie Stewart, the event's Machine Examiner, which gives clearer guidelines on what is eligible.

Anyone unsure of any component is welcome to contact him for clarification using the email address provided in the booklet.

Would-be entrants are asked to please take the time to read these guidelines and accompanying notes to ensure that they are aware of the regulations and remember to send two clear A4 (297mm x 210mm) colour pictures of the machine you are intending to ride with your entry form.

If the pictures are not clear then your entry will not make the ballot process so please be warned.

Every year the number of riders wanting to ride exceeds the number of entries available which inevitably results in a ballot.

Entry fee is £75 which for such an amazing experience is very reasonable.

The list of Pre-65 Scottish winners, with the event going back to 1984, is a Who's Who of classic trials and includes Sammy Miller, Mick Andrews and Dave Thorpe.

Last year it was Yorkshire character James Noble who won on  an immaculate Ariel, an amazing result considering that Bobble broke his leg competing in the previous year's event!

The Pre-65 Scottish is a spectator favourite because of the eclectic mix of riders and machines.

New-build Bantams might be the hot pick on the Britshock scene but the Scottish organisers will ensure that there's a great mix of two-strokes and four-strokes.

There'll be Dots and James and Francis Barnetts (and of course Bantams!) plus a great mix of four-strokes from BSA, Ariel, Royal Enfield, the odd Norton and some rasping Triumph twins.

The 2015 trial was a fantastic event and the organisers say plans are underway to make 2016 another cracker, so get your entry forms downloaded, follow the instructions and get them in the post to give yourself a fighting chance in the inevitable ballot!
