Trials Torque: Reeth’s three of the best!
By John Dickinson on 23rd Jul 15
Richmond club stage their renowned Reeth Three Day Trial this weeked, July 2527, and for those who dont already know this is most definitely the biggest and best trial after the Scottish Six Days.
A mighty entry of 240 has been accepted plus 10 Richmond club "crew” who look after things out on the moor.
And there was still a reserve list of half-a-dozen hopefuls, should anyone drop out or not turn up, as TMX went to press.
The base for the Three Day is once again The Parks Field at the picturesque (what isn't picturesque in the Yorkshire Dales) village of Grinton, a mile or so from the market town of Reeth.
And this is a real hub for the event as it isn't all about riding your bike.
There is a super social side to the event with a massive marquee on site in which there are evening meals, buffets, carveries and entertainment including the prize presentation on Sunday evening.
The entry list contains quality as well as quantity and is a real family affair with dads and lads, dads and daughters, brothers, cousins, even husbands and wives with Becky and Craig Talbot.
There's a very healthy entry of girls with at least eight with World Champ Emma Bristow joining Becky, local aces Katy Sunter, Chloe Richardson and Robyn Alderson, plus Louise Alford, Lucy Smith and Jess Bown.
The men's line-up is basically a Who's Who of Yorkshire trials including the battling trio of Richard Sadler, Guy Kendrew and Dan Thorpe.
Then there's the likes of Ian Austermuhle, John Crinson, Tom Hick and Rob Waite all well capable of lifting the Premier.
Heading the line-up though is last year's winner Jonny Richardson who, although having made Hard Enduro his priority this year, will still take some stopping on a trials bike.
Jonny won last year on just 13 marks from Dan Thorpe 26, Manx ace Josh Brain 31 and a disappointed Richard Sadler on 33.
Cousins Jack and James Stones bagged the Inter and Novice awards while top Clubman last year was Cumbrian interloper Stu Gaskell.
All are back this year with the exception of Josh Brain.
Others entered include Glen Scholey on his superb RTL Honda, while Lancashire's Ben Butterworth has his shiny and potent Ariel entered in the Twinshock class.
Each day will start from The Parks Field and each course will comprise a single lap.
Friday starts at 10am, after scrutineering and will comprise 30 miles in Swaledale with 30 sections. Saturday and Sunday both start at 9am.
There will be a cracking 40-mile loop up Arkengarthdale on Saturday with 35 subs while Sunday reverts to Swaledale for 35 miles and 30 sections.
That represents three days of fabulous trials.
Riders and spectators are asked to just be sensible in the start area and while out on the course.
Don't block roads, drives, gateways etc when parking and don't go where you shouldn't.
The route is all on farmland or managed moorland and the Richmond club works very hard to obtain permissions so we can all responsibly enjoy ourselves on that land.
