When did Britain last have a double GP win?
By TMX Archives on 5th Aug 15
With Shaun Simpson and Max Anstie blowing the rest of the MXGP and MX2 superstars into the weeds at Lommel on Sunday heres a quick look at how amazing and rare a day the British had in Belgium.
Let's be honest, these days Brits winning GPs is pretty rare so two winning on the same day is something really special. In fact, a day like this hasn't occurred for 14 years when Jamie Dobb and Gordon Crockard were at the height of their GP fame.
The feat has only been managed nine times before and given that GP classes always used to race on different dates and different tracks all over the world I suppose it's amazing it has ever happened at all.
Only five pairs of riders have been involved.
Dobby and Crockard did it twice in the noughties, Dave Bickers and Jeff Smith in the sixties while Dave Thorpe and Jem Whatley shared MX glory a staggering four times (Whatley only won five GPs in total) including when they both picked up their debut GP wins in 1984.
Also on the list are MXdN heros Kurt Nicoll and Rob Herring which is surely a good omen for Max and Shaun heading to Ernee in September.
