Wilkinson/Millard take 2026 ACU British Sidecarcross Championship

The penultimate round of the 2026 ACU British Sidecarcross Championships took place at the Wakes Colne circuit hosted by the Halstead & DMCC. It was always going to be a challenge for the club to control dust as there had been no rain for weeks and the temperature was going to be in the low 30s. Despite this, the club kept things under control under the fierce sunshine.
After the previous round, the current champions, Brett Wilkinson/Joe Millard had a very healthy lead of 77 points over second-placed Anthony Milliar/Jon Hunt but after the Lithuanian GP Brett was battered and bruised. Before the start of the meeting, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to race let alone ride to his normal standard.
After timed qualification, it looked like things weren’t too bad and the discomfort became less. They only put in four laps against the clock and set the fastest time, two seconds faster than Stuart Brown/Jack Wilkinson.
When the gate dropped for the first moto, Wilkinson took the holeshot just from Tony Grahame/Jak Watson with George Kinge/Liam Hodges third. Wilkinson/Millard soon began to pull away from the rest of the field and very soon had a comfortable lead of over 10 seconds. Grahame/Watson held second place for the first half of the race but was coming under pressure from Kinge/Hodges who took over second place on lap seven.
Milliar/Hunt didn’t get a good start and were eighth early on but later dropped back and finally finished in 17th place. Their dropping down the order and Grahame/Watson losing second place meant that Wilkinson/Millard would be champions if they scored just a few points. It was obvious this wasn’t about to happen and he went on to take the win and secure the title with three races still to go. Kinge/Hodges finished second and Grahame/Watson third.
The second race was even easier for Wilkinson/Millard with most of those near to him in the table suffering some sort of problem. Kinge/Hodges crashed out at the start of lap four whilst Grahame/Watson dropped from second to ninth on lap five. This promoted Hodges/Henderson up to second and Brown/Wilkinson up to third.
With just one more round at Canada Heights on September 6, the scrap for second and third place is still very much open. Milliar/Hunt still holds second but now only has a 12-point advantage over Grahame/Watson.
In the Experts class, Milliar/Hunt have taken the title with Louis Murch/Freddie Keane second.
