And there were top ten moto finishes for Arnaud Tonus, Jake Nicholls and Max Anstie.

 

Searle had been top dog in qualification, running down Herlings for the win, but the Brit shot an own goal in the first moto with a tactical error off the gate.

 

"We decided to take the first gate, but the gravel was too soft and I got no drive,” said Searle.

 

"I was a bike's length down straight away and Herlings came straight across me. I was nearly last going up the first hill.”

 

The Brit set the fastest lap of the race in traffic, but third was the best he could hope to achieve as Herlings and KTM team-mate Jeremy Van Horebeek ran away from the pack.

 

"It was probably the best-prepped track all year, but there was less of a differential between the fastest riders and the rest, so it made it more difficult to move through the pack. By the time I got to third, they were gone,” Searle added.

 

Tonus had gated third and held it for six laps before inevitably dropping down the leader-board in his first race since March. 

 

The lack of race practice had been evident in the previous day's shorter qualification race as he went backwards to 11th in 25 minutes, but the 2011 Maxxis champion paced himelf better on Sunday to cross the line seventh in race one.

 

Nicholls was a frustrated tenth: "I didn't have a good choice of gate after Saturday, but I got a good jump and was well inside the top ten,” he said.

 

"Then someone else came from outside me and they went straight on where the track sweeps back up the hill. I was back on the leader-board as Tommy came through, but then I stalled twice.”

 

Anstie was two places further back after his inevitable ride through the pack when his Honda left him stranded in 19th on the opening lap.

 

Searle made amends in race two as he tagged holeshot artist Tonus for four laps before moving ahead: "Arnaud was riding well and put in some good laps. But once I found a way to pass him, I put my head down and opened up a gap,” said the Brit.

 

The Swiss ace held down second for a further five laps before Herlings unceremoniously put him on the ground while Nicholls got eighth this time: "I should have had more places but after I fell and handed a place to Lupino I never settled again.” 

 

Anstie headed his fellow Brit by a place this time.
