Cody goes Brazil nuts with first-ever victory

With the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship stopping off in Belo Horizonte, Brazil for the penultimate round of the  series it was KTM's Cody Webb who finally knocked Taddy Blazusiak off the top step of the podium.

After coming close on numerous occasions, Webb finally got the job done in Brazil to take the overall win from David Knight (KTM) in second. Blazusiak (KTM) slipped off the top step for the first time in five races to end his night in third.

Getting his night off to a solid start, Webb was hot out of the traps in race one to take the win. Second in race two left him in contention for the overall but crashing off the start of race three nearly saw him throw it all away. Remounting dead last, Webb put in a cracking come-from-behind-ride to take third and with it grab the overall.

"After getting so close numerous times to the overall victory it feels great to have finally got my first win in SuperEnduro,” Said Webb. Coming into the final race I was tied on points with Walker for the overall but then we crashed in the first corner.

"I got going again but crashed a second time. Somehow I managed to claw my way back to the third and it was enough for the overall. There's just one round left and second overall is still all to play for.”

Finding his way back onto the podium having missed out in both Mexico and Finland, Knight was firing on all cylinders.

Capitalising on the chaos in the first corner of race three, the Manxman emerged as the race leader.

Keeping his nose out front – despite a last-lap crash – he hung on to take the win and with it the overall runner-up result.

With just one round left to run, Knight is four points clear of Webb for second.

"It feels good to get back onto the podium having missed out in Mexico and Finland,” said Knight.

"I feel like I rode to my old self – like I was doing in Germany.

Humid

"I just let everyone else make the mistakes and put myself in the right position to pick up the pieces.

"It felt great to win that last race even though it almost killed me.

"It was so humid in the stadium and that made it impossible to breathe. I had nothing left when I crossed the finish line. I was nearly on the oxygen mask.

"I'm still hanging in there in the point's race with one round left. Taddy has it pretty much sewn up but second is mine for the taking.

"If I can be smart and let the results come to me in France then I can end this thing on a proper high. For what's a two-man setup, finishing second overall will be a hell of a result.”

Admitting to be racing for the championship and not just race wins, Blazusiak finally saw his win streak come to an end.

Third overall but with a 42-point lead in the series, Blazusiak looks set to wrap up his sixth straight title in France.

"Coming into this race with such a healthy points lead, my main focus was about staying safe and making it through the night,” explained Blazusiak.

"I knew the other guys were hungry to win and I didn't want to get dragged into their fight so I set a pace for myself that I was comfortable with.

"I rode three good races and managed to get on the podium but most importantly I've got a 42-point lead entering the final round in France.”
